Goals:
1. In what rank is the university RISD on?
2. What programs does this university have?
3. Cost and acceptance?
Research:
- First Goal:
RISD is ranked every year. It is one of the top art universities in the US. It is ranked above Yale University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. RISD ranked #1 in fashion design, graphic design, interior architecture design, glass, and industrial design. It ranked #2 in jewelry design and printmaking. Also, it ranked #3 in ceramics, multimedia, painting, photography, and sculpture.
In 2012, RISD was voted #1 of "The World's 25 Best Design Schools"which 85.1% of the people thought it had a valuable program.
-Second Goal:
Some of the academics they offer are: apparel design, architecture, ceramics, digital and media, film/animation/video, furniture design, glass, graphic design, history of art and visual culture, history, philosophy and the social sciences, illustration, industrial design, interior architecture, jewelry and metalsmithing, landscape architecture, literary arts and studies, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, teaching and learning in art and design, textiles.
For undergraduate they offer: apparel design, architecture, ceramics, film/animation/video, furniture design, glass, graphic design, illustration, industrial design, interior architecture, jewelry and metalsmithing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles.
For graduates they offer: architecture, ceramics, digital and media, furniture design, glass, graphic design, industrial design, interior architecture, jewelry and metalsmithing, landscape architecture, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, teaching and learning in art and design, textiles.
-Third Goal:
The acceptance rate in RISD is 34%. To get in, most of students have B+ or A for their GPA, above 1750 (CR+M+W) in their SAT, and 25 or higher in ACT. But RISD admits student based on their art skills. The school asks student to make two essays and they have to have one or more letters of recommendation Also, they have to submit two drawings and a portfolio of 12 - 20 images.
Estimated cost of education in 2013-2014 is:
Tuition: 42,622 (undergraduate) 42,622 (graduate)
Activity Fee: 310 (undergraduate) 310 (graduate)
Estimated Room: 6,958 (undergraduate) 10,542 (graduate)
Board: 5,314 (undergraduate) 5,314 (graduate)
Estimated Personal Expenses, Supplies and Travel: 6,250 (undergraduate) 8,090 (graduate)
Estimated Total Cost of Education: 61,454 (undergraduate) 66,878 (graduate)
What I learned:
I learned that RISD is a great university that has a lot of programs involving art and design so if you like all of that this is probably the university for you. You also have to be a good student. It costs a lot but the education is worth the value because it is ranked first in the world for design.
One thing that I want to learn for next class:
I would like to research about the life of students there and all the community.
